    Stamped Driveway

Stamped concrete is often called textured or imprinted concrete and accurately imitates slate surfaces. When combined with colouring agents, stamped concrete is the perfect choice to add a level of prestige to your property with a look of stone, brick, slate, and flagstone.

Stamped Concrete gets its name because installers stamp on the printing mats to force them into the concrete to create the textured effect of natural paving.

Benefits of using stamped concrete for your driveway:

    • High-end look for a lower price
    • Combines style with durability
    • Easy to install
    • Easy to maintain
    • Flexible designs
    • Increases your property’s resale value

Installing stamped concrete requires experience and good judgement to ensure that a realistic representation of natural paving is achieved and that the driveway or patio area is durable enough to last a long time.

How we make stamped concrete colours and patterns for driveways

With almost endless color combinations and many pattern choices, stamped concrete is created by colouring the surface of the concrete with colour surface hardener (a solid colour pigment), adding an antique release agent (to create a more realistic appearance) and using printing mats to shape the surface to match natural paving. There are around 25 different colours for colour surface hardener, 10 for an antique release agent, and 24 different patterns which suggest thousands of different combinations for stamped concrete.

However, because stamped concrete is attempting to reproduce the appearance of natural paving products it makes sense to match the colours to a pattern that exists in nature. Consequently, the most common combinations are blended greys with a slate or granite pattern and shades of brown and orange with a brick or sandstone pattern.

What is the best way to clean stamped concrete

Routine cleaning of stamped concrete is simple. Sweep and wash the surface occasionally to avoid dirt buildup using a push broom, garden hose, and a mild detergent.

Here are the steps for cleaning stamped concrete:

    • Rinse well with a garden hose on high pressure.
    • Scrub with a push broom and a small amount of liquid dish soap.
    • Rinse again, making sure to remove all soap residue.
    • If this method isn’t effective, try using a pressure washer on any remaining stains. But don’t set the pressure too high, as this could cause damage to the sealer or textured surface. Or you can hire a contractor that specializes in professional concrete cleaning.

What are the benefits of a coloured concrete driveway?

There are some excellent reasons coloured concrete is one of the most popular driveway choices not just in the Brisbane, but throughout Australia:

    Improves Curb Appeal

Coloured concrete adds an artistic touch to your home’s exterior. When carefully chosen to complement the other elements of your front yard, coloured concrete is fantastic at enhancing your property’s curb appeal.

    Longevity

While concrete driveways cost more to install upfront, its longevity will leave you better off in the long run. In fact, a concrete driveway will last up to 30 years when properly maintained.

    Durability

Coloured concrete reflects heat away because concrete absorbs less UV radiation than most other materials, meaning you won’t have to deal with a driveway you can fry an egg on. Its robust, rigid nature also allows it to withstand heavy loads better than other driveway types.

    Low Maintenance

Coloured concrete driveways are delightfully easy to maintain. There’s very little ongoing maintenance involved besides cleaning up spills and sweeping up debris. Cracks will eventually appear on the surface because the ground will naturally shift, this is a cheap, easy DIY job using a simple concrete patcher which you can find at most hardware stores. You only need to do resealing work every five years.

    Boosts Resale Value

A coloured concrete driveway adds significant value to your home, which will come in handy if you decide to sell it.

How do I maintain a coloured concrete driveway?

Sweeping a coloured concrete driveway and hosing it down with detergent and water will keep dirt build-up at bay. Inspect for any cracks or fissures because if they aren’t fixed immediately, moisture or chemicals from spills can penetrate the surface of the concrete and break it up. Resealing work only needs to be done every two years in residential areas, but more frequently in industrial settings.

How much does a coloured concrete driveway cost?

The cost of a coloured concrete driveway depends on the size of the driveway and the slope of the surface you’ll be concreting on. Concreting on a flat surface cost $65 to $85 per square metre, but it’s about $10 more per square metre if the driveway is sloping.

You can expect to pay $75 to $90 per square metre for coloured concrete or up to $150 if you choose a decorative option like stamps or stencils
